Curriculum
A Curriculum That Builds Confidence And Connection
By third grade, your child is becoming more self-aware, more inquisitive, and more independent. Our curriculum encourages them to question, explore, and engage deeply with their learning, building both practical skills and critical thinking abilities.
Language Arts
Through creation myths, legends, and global folklore, students connect with universal themes while building literacy skills. They strengthen their understanding of grammar, sentence structure, and parts of speech, while creative expression is encouraged through poetry and narrative writing.
Nature & Science
Students explore earthquakes, volcanoes, climate zones, and farming, learning about the forces that shape our planet and the connections between people, nature, and sustainability. These studies inspire curiosity and environmental awareness.
Math
Third graders expand their arithmetic skills by exploring place value, time, measurement, and money through real-world applications. Hands-on problem-solving activities help them see math as a tool for daily life rather than just numbers on a page.
Social & Emotional Growth
Through collaborative projects, cultural studies, and self-directed exploration, students develop self-reliance, cooperation, and an understanding of how people adapt to different environments.

Our third-grade program is structured into 10 focused learning blocks, each lasting 2-4 weeks, ensuring deep comprehension and sustained interest.
1. Creation Stories from Around the World
In this block, students explore diverse creation stories and myths, delving into cultural perspectives on the origins of the world, humanity, and natural phenomena. They improve reading comprehension, analyze literary elements, and expand their vocabulary while developing a respect for the richness of global traditions.
2. Measurement
In this hands-on measurement block, students investigate various measurement systems and their real-world applications. Emphasizing accuracy, precision, and problem-solving, they engage in practical activities that make measurement concepts tangible and relevant.
3. Farming
This hands-on block dives into the world of farming, exploring the vital connections between plants, animals, weather, and sustainable practices. Students investigate specific animal-grain pairings and discover how they work together within a farm ecosystem.
4. Grammar and Writing: Part 1
Students embark on a journey through the structures of language, starting with the four main parts of speech. They write creatively and explore poetry and nature descriptions while deepening their grammatical understanding.
5. Nature/Science Studies: Earthquakes and Volcanoes
Students explore the powerful forces within our Earth, investigating earthquakes and volcanoes through hands-on simulations and research. They’ll examine plate tectonics, model volcanic processes, and analyze the impact of these natural events on landscapes and human life.
6. Place Value and Higher-Level Algorithms
Students expand their understanding of place value to the thousands place and master higher-level algorithms. They tackle addition and subtraction up to 1,000, multiply two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers, and practice division while exploring various strategies to build math confidence.
7. Grammar and Writing: Part 2
Building upon their grammatical foundations, students explore sentence structure, proper punctuation use, and more complex writing forms. They practice writing instructions, descriptions, and short narratives based on their experiences in other blocks.
8. Shelters
Students research various shelters from different cultures and time periods. They choose a specific shelter type to replicate as a small-scale model, applying their design, math, and building skills. The final week includes presentations showcasing their shelters and reflections on the project process.
9. Time and Money
This block introduces time and money through a thematic lens. Students start by exploring the concept of time through comparisons and storytelling before learning to read analog and digital clocks. Engaging activities about money emphasize practical skills like counting, making change, and understanding the value of goods and services.
10.Global Climate Zones
This block explores the diversity of our planet’s climates. Students learn about the unique characteristics of different climate zones, adaptations of plants and animals, and the impact of climate on human civilization. Mapping exercises and weather observations solidify their understanding.

How do we join the class?
All of our online Waldorf classes are hosted on the platform, Outschool. Outschool is a leading online marketplace for live, interactive classes for kids. It provides a secure and user-friendly environment for children to explore their interests and learn new skills with experienced educators.
Is Waldorful Days secular or faith-based?
Waldorful Days is a secular (non-religious) educational program. Our curriculum is designed to be inclusive and focuses on creativity. While we respect the diverse beliefs of our families, our materials do not include religious content.
Does the curriculum cover everything?
Our curriculum focuses on the main lesson blocks only and wet-on-wet painting, usually once a week. We provide weekly homework and painting assignments for each block and a suggested circle time for each block.
What are the costs and payment options for your classes?

What materials will my child need for the classes?
Your child will need basic art supplies such as block and stick crayons, a main lesson book (sketchbook) watercolor paints, watercolor paper, and a whiteboard with a markers. A detailed supply list for the grade will be provided upon enrollment. Additionally, having a quiet and dedicated workspace will help your child focus and engage fully in the lessons.
How do you support children with different learning needs?
We strive to create an inclusive learning environment and adapt our teaching methods to support diverse learning needs. Our small class sizes allow for personalized attention, and our teachers are experienced in differentiating instruction. If your child has specific learning requirements, please contact us so we can discuss the best ways to support their education.
How do you handle assessments and progress tracking?
We believe in continuous feedback. Instead of focusing solely on end-of-unit tests, we use ongoing formative assessments. These could be interactive activities, short responses, or even lively discussions. This approach allows us to celebrate progress, catch misunderstandings early on, and adjust our teaching to support each student’s individual learning journey.
If you require a report at anytime you are welcome to request one from the teacher.
Is there homework assigned?
Yes, we assign weekly homework to complement the current block. Homework activities are designed to reinforce the skills and concepts introduced in class, providing students with additional practice and opportunities for creative expression. These assignments help solidify learning and keep students engaged with the material outside of class time.
