Our second-grade program is structured into 11 focused learning blocks, each lasting 2-4 weeks, ensuring deep comprehension and sustained interest.

1. Exploring Fables and their Lessons

In this block, students are introduced to the enchanting world of fables, focusing on their rich narratives and moral lessons. Through reading and discussion, students will identify key themes, develop vocabulary, and engage in creative writing activities that correlate with the fables’ teachings.

2. Discovering the Four Processes

In this block, students gain proficiency in the four basic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Through practical exercises and story problems, they will enhance their computational skills and understanding of arithmetic processes.

3. Form Drawing and Cursive Writing

In this block, students develop their writing skills, progressing from form drawing to fluent cursive writing. They will also learn about sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation to improve their written communication.

4. Exploring Place Value

In this block, students delve into the concept of place value, learning to comprehend and use units, tens, hundreds, and thousands. They will engage in activities that solidify their understanding of numerical value and its role in addition and subtraction.

5. Heroes of the Past: Learning from Noble Legends

In this block, students explore historical narratives, focusing on individuals who have made significant contributions to society. It will enhance their reading comprehension, critical thinking, and ability to draw insights from the past.

6. Story Problems & Problem Solving

In this block, students apply mathematical concepts to solve story problems. They will develop strategies for tackling complex problems and learn to apply their math skills in diverse scenarios.

7. Continents and Oceans

In this block, students explore the physical geography of Earth. They will learn about continents, oceans, and various geographical features through map-drawing, discussions, and hands-on projects.

8. Legends of the World: Folklore of Historic People

In this block, students read and discuss folklore from various cultures. They will analyze stories for cultural and moral understanding, develop their reading comprehension, and engage in creative writing exercises.

9. Diving Deeper into Processes

In this block, students explore the foundational concepts of algorithms and logical thinking. This block involves problem-solving exercises and activities that enhance their understanding of sequential reasoning in mathematics.

10.Life in the Wild

In this block, students focus on the animal kingdom, differentiating between warm-blooded and cold-blooded animals. They will engage in activities that include drawing, discussions, and writing exercises to deepen their understanding of animal biology and habitats.

11.Art

In this block, students will delve into the world of visual arts by exploring the lives and works of three influential artists, culminating in a reflective and celebratory graduation day. Each day of the first week focuses on a different artist, allowing students to understand their impact on art history and culture while creating inspired artworks.

How do we join the class?

All of our online Waldorf classes are hosted on the platform, Outschool. Outschool is a leading online marketplace for live, interactive classes for kids. It provides a secure and user-friendly environment for children to explore their interests and learn new skills with experienced educators.

Is Waldorful Days secular or faith-based?

Waldorful Days is a secular (non-religious) educational program. Our curriculum is designed to be inclusive and focuses on creativity. While we respect the diverse beliefs of our families, our materials do not include religious content.

Does the curriculum cover everything?

Our curriculum focuses on the main lesson blocks only and wet-on-wet painting, usually once a week. We provide weekly homework and painting assignments for each block and a suggested circle time for each block.

What are the costs and payment options for your classes?

What materials will my child need for the classes?

Your child will need basic art supplies such as block and stick crayons, a main lesson book (sketchbook) watercolor paints, watercolor paper, and a whiteboard with a markers. A detailed supply list for the grade will be provided upon enrollment. Additionally, having a quiet and dedicated workspace will help your child focus and engage fully in the lessons.

How do you support children with different learning needs?

We strive to create an inclusive learning environment and adapt our teaching methods to support diverse learning needs. Our small class sizes allow for personalized attention, and our teachers are experienced in differentiating instruction. If your child has specific learning requirements, please contact us so we can discuss the best ways to support their education.

How do you handle assessments and progress tracking?

We believe in continuous feedback. Instead of focusing solely on end-of-unit tests, we use ongoing formative assessments. These could be interactive activities, short responses, or even lively discussions. This approach allows us to celebrate progress, catch misunderstandings early on, and adjust our teaching to support each student’s individual learning journey.

Is there homework assigned?

Yes, we assign weekly homework to complement the current block. Homework activities are designed to reinforce the skills and concepts introduced in class, providing students with additional practice and opportunities for creative expression. These assignments help solidify learning and keep students engaged with the material outside of class time.
